Hey my name is Paul & I'm 16.

Well wish me luck from tomorrow

dont fail me now [15 Apr 2005|10:45pm]

You all did great giving me ideas for my diabetic son's food needs. Now I need you all again. I am looking for a website or book I could buy or things you have tried yourself. I want wholesome snacks low in sugars (fruit sugars are GREAT!!, but processed sugars are not) that a 5 year old would like. I mean like granolas or cookies. I know you can make things like no bakes with natural peanut butter and other ingredients that are much healthier than the ones I grew up on. Me growing up....boy does that open a whole new can of worms. I wasnt raised eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies so it is a challenge for me to do it to my kids. We are doing great though. Tonight for instance there were 4 fruit and veggies choices with dinner and you had to take 3. Okay, sorry back to topic....ANY help would be appreciated. THANK YOU ALL!!!!!

cross posted! Almost forgot - the drs want to limit his bad fats too. Peanut butter, nut fats are okay, but butters etc are frowned upon.

Yay! [16 Feb 2005|01:16pm]

baby splurges. [16 Feb 2005|09:17am]

for various reasons, my weight has gone up almost 15 lbs from what it used to be - back in around september, i was 149 lbs and today i am 163. i'm very upset about this, and am determined to get this weight off, and more. my ultimate goal is 130. (i'm around 5'3.)
the atkins diet has worked for me in the past when i've stuck it out, but i'll end up cheating a lot of the time, and giving up. i don't want to do that this time.
do you think that i can do this? lose 30+ lbs?
today would be my 3rd day on the diet, and i haven't been sticking to the strict induction - i've had things like low-carb bagels, 3 bean salads, and fried chicken wings (breaded!). but i figure, with my tendency to cheat, allowing these things would be better than slipping up on candy and ice cream and such, which i have been successfully turning down still...
am i doing alright? will i still lose weight?

1 carb = ?

I've been under the impression that 1g Carb = 1 Carb.

I'm very confused.

I'm seventeen and weigh around 97 Kgs. Well I'm guessing it's gone up to 100 since I last checked, *sigh*. Let me explain.

About three weeks ago a couple of friends of mine persuaded me to do a strict extreme form of Atkins' diet, not following the conventional 4-phase one described on the official website. They told me NOT to eat any salads or vegetables even (they said that they all had carbs and that fibre turned into carb) and to eat as much as I want of chicken, meat, and well, that's about it. Nothing else. So I did that for three weeks and it went fine. I actually felt that perhaps I was gradually losing weight. More or less everyone that saw me after that while insisted I had started to lose weight.

But then I started PMSing a few days ago and the chocolate craving became too much. It's like medecine for me this time of the month. I literally burn up a fever and feel delerious if I can't get my hands on any chocolate. And so I gave in and ran down to the supermarket where I stuffed my face with chocolate. Since then (Wednesday) I've been indulging: noodles, a muffin, a Starbucks frappuchino, a salad today...

My questions are:

a) Is it ideal that, with my weight, I do the 'extreme' Atkins my friends recommended to me, with absolutely NO Salads/veggies just NOTHING but meat?

b) How difficult is it, after this PMS phase is through, to get back to the diet I was doing effectively for 3 weeks?

c) Is it alright, from now on, if, once a month, I have some chocolate when I get crazy like that?

Would really appreciate sincere responses, thanks in advance.

What I ate...
A American cheese omelette and water and now I am about to eat steak and mushrooms and some more water and then shower, do homework. And then probably eat some more. A very low key day. I am planning a Christmas party where I get to cook for all my friends, it is going to be lovely. I love food.

Next to a tree. [04 Dec 2004|03:49pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

Today I ate:
Blueberries and whip cream
Lots of Water
Eggs with cheese
2 strips Bacon
Plain cheddar cheese
10 chicken nuggests
and now I have shall have some tea.

I want to be 25 pounds skinner, some girl made a comment on my journal that was totally valid, I'd so much rather be the thin girl with the eating disorder then the fat one with the low self esteem. Soon enough.

All Atkins friendly food, I seem to be doing well but I don't want to weigh in because I am on my period and that makes me fatter. I hate getting it less because tampons make life much easier. Alright, I am going to lay down because I don't feel so hot and I have to babysit tonight. Ahhh money.

I still got it. [04 Dec 2004|12:01am]
[ mood | tired ]

I am on my period which makes me fatter, which in turn makes me sadder because I weigh more then I should because of the retension of water. YUCK!

I have been eating well completely staying on Atkins except for one minor glich yesterday. I gave a pint of blood because there was a blood drive at my school, so after you do it they require you to eat cookies, so I ate 2 mini oatmeal raisin cookies and also a half a cup of apple juice, I walked about a mile that day in hopes to work off a little. But I felt really bad about it but it was nessecary for me to eat and drink that shit so I wouldn't faint after giving blood.

Other then that meals have consisted of a lot of turkey, cheese, nuts, water, salad, peanut butter, whip cream, tea, and that is pretty much it. All Atkins-friendly food, so it is good. I want to loose weight, I want to be skinner now. I hate waiting.

C'mon weight loss, go faster. I wish I didn't eat sometimes.

The first one is really short. [02 Dec 2004|01:35am]
[ mood | sleepy ]

Today I ate:
Turkey Bacon 1 Carbs
Tea 5 Carbs
Yellow Squash with onions 4 Carbs
Diet Snapple Apple 0 Carbs
Cashews 6 Carbs
Turkey 1 Carb
Cheese 1 Carb
Few Strawberries 2 Carbs
Salmon 0 Carbs
Lots of water, I drink about 4 bottles a day, I love it. Everyone drink water it is so good for you.

20 Carbs

Good day, each day in terms of eating seems to be good and I am looking forward to this 25 pound goal. The friends that I have told about loosing weight say if anyone can do it I can which is really encouraging, I didn't tell all of my friends because a lot of them won't support me and will say I don't need to loose weight but I do.

Hope everyone is doing well with their goals.
I need to start exercising but there are not enough hours in the day.

Sympathy [30 Nov 2004|06:53pm]
[ mood | content ]

Another sucessful eating day, and it is getting easier to resist bad food as I realize how badly I want to be skinny.

What I ate today:
Turkey Bacon 2 Carbs
Zuchinni 3 Carbs
Turkey 1 Carb
Cheese 1 Carb
Lots of Cashews 7 Carbs
Salad with feta, chicken and articoke 5 Carbs
Lots of Water O Carbs
Diet Snapple O Carbs

And now I am about to go to eat dinner. I decided I am not going to weigh myself for a week because I feel like it should discourage me or over encourage me because either I will get upset about not loosing or get happy that I lost and be tempted to cheat. I think I am just going with the strategy of being strict and knowing I am on a path to loose 25 pounds by New Years and I will do it.

Heart Attack [29 Nov 2004|10:53pm]
[ mood | amused ]

Today was a good day, I had:

Water 0 Carbs
Cashews 5 Carbs
Spinach 2 Carbs
Turkey 1 Carb
Cobb Salad (feta cheese, bacon, avocado, onions and chicken)5 Carbs
More Water 0 Carbs
Tea 5 Carbs

A good day, I am still a little hungry, so I think I will go munch on some cheese and nuts. But I lost another pound.

I am getting to my goal, I will be skinny.

I also am loving the weight loss communties, I love reading about others struggles, it helps that we aren't alone.

I also love this creative visualization, when I looked at the glass of eggnog sitting on the desk that my mother had put there I saw a double chin and requested that it be moved far away from me. It was glorious because I found a way to no longer crave such things.

Questions. [18 Oct 2004|06:01am]

[ mood | tired ]

When did you start seeing results?

Do you HAVE to only eat salad, meat, eggs, and cheese for those first two weeks? I've fallen in love with Slim-Fast bars, and with little net carbs, I don't know if it's ok at this time.

Also, I remember someone talking about being on their period. Is it harder for those pounds to go near/on your cycle?

Thanks again! I love this community!

Introductions! [13 Oct 2004|08:00pm]

[ mood | happy ]

Hello, ladies! I would love to start off tomorrow morning with the Atkins diet. Any suggestions or tips for the newcomer? What am I going to expect in the beginning? I know you are supposed to start off with 20 net carbs for the first 2 weeks. Is that basically salad, meat, eggs, and cheese? Thank you so much! :-)

New here (cross-posted) [04 Sep 2004|09:15pm]

My name is Amy and I am on day #2 of Atkins. I used to be very anti-atkins until my husband tried it and lost 40 pounds within a few months. So I decided that I would try as well. I am 5'0" and weigh about 130 pounds (really need to get a better scale). My goal weight is between 105-110 pounds by my brother's wedding, in which I am a bridesmaid, on October 16th. I'm not sure if I can lose 20-25 pounds by then, but I am sure going to try.

Day 1 for me was hard. I didn't have any cravings, but my muscles felt like they do after a strenous workout when you haven't exercised in years. I also had a mild headache all day. I went from eating around 800g of carbs a day to under 20 so that was a big shock to my system. Today being day 2 is the worst. My head is pounding, muscles still sore, feel somewhat lightheaded and disoriented, and very nauseated. Basically, like death. ;-) The only thing that is keeping me from giving up is knowing that because I feel the way that I do means it must be working. Hubby said he felt the same way and I should feel better in a week. I can't wait for that energy surge that I hear about. Well, that's about it!

[ mood | frustrated ]

I think I am doing something wrong. I started Atkins again about a week and a half ago. I lost 5 pounds in the first 3 days, but since then (5 days) I have been stuck on the same weight and today when I woke up I discovered I gained a pound. I am very sad. I don't understand what I am doing wrong.
My meals are usually the same:
Breakfast: Eggs
Lunch: Salad..maybe some chicken
Dinner: Either fish (tuna or flounder) or a hamburger (no bun of course)
Snack: Celery with cream cheese

Plus, all I drink is water, I walk for 30min on the tread mill everyday AND i have been a very, very good girl and haven't cheated at all.... So I feel like I should have lost a little more weight, but I haven't.

What am I doing wrong? Is this normal? Am i eating too much? too little? Help!!

Hi, my name is Kim and i am 19. My mom and I started Atkins together a year ago. It went well for a few months, but eventually we went back to our bad habbits. This summer i have decided to get back on the diet and do it by myself. So far everything has been going really well. But it is really hard for me to eat dinner with my family when they get to eat yummy stuff like pasta and im stuck with the same old dry hamburger, so i have started eating alone because the temptation is too great. I was just wondering how other people dealed with eating with their families who are unwilling to have a low carb life style. I know there is the option of cooking low carb meals that everyone will like, but that only works a few nights of the week.

Hi everybody, I'm new to the community.

I've been on Atkins for almost a year now, but I'm sad to say I've really had a hard time these past five months in keeping motivated. I'm hoping posting here and reading others' stories will help me get back in gear and lose the rest of the weight that's been plaguing me for years.

I'm a 22 year old female, and my current goal is to reach 160 pounds. That was what I weighed at high school graduation five years ago. I started Atkins at 220, and am currently hovering around 190. I had reached 180 in May, when I went to Georgia for my sister's law school graduation. During that stay, and in the subsequent months after I gained 10 pounds back and haven't made any headway in losing it again. Initially my goal had been to weigh 160 by the time October 13th came around (long story about why that particular date), but by now it isn't a realistic goal. Once I get back to 160, I don't know what I'll do. According to my BMI, I will still be overweight at 160. I can't even remember weighing less than that, but I might give 150 a try.

I haven't been a very active person, DDRing somewhat frequently but not enough to really count as a workout. About three weeks ago I ponied up the cash and joined a gym, where I've been going to 5-6 days a week. I do 30 minutes of cardio on an elliptical (treadmills wreak havoc on my knees and flat feet) and 30-40 minutes of weight training. I was very worried about losing motivation and not going to the gym, but I guess after spending so many hundreds of dollars on it I'm not inclined to give it up easily. I'm very surprised, however, that my progress at the gym has not helped any with staying motivated to keep doing Atkins.

I need encouragement! I can't give up now!
